Dowson: Woking Can’t Be Barcelona Every Single Week!

Alan Dowson warned Woking fans it’s not going to be fancy football all the way until the end of the season.

Recent electric performances have kept the club very much in National League South title contention.

But they had to show their ability to dig in as they survived a scare at home to the manager’s former club Hampton.

The 3-1 victory kept them two points behind leaders Torquay United but they have two games in hand.

“I think by half-time it should have been three or four and we didn’t put our chances away,” he said on the club’s video service.

“That kept them in it and when it went to 2-1 we were hanging on a bit bit.

“But it can’t be like it was at Weston-super-Mare or at Billericay. Sometimes you have to scrap. We aren’t Barcelona.

“We switched off but I can’t go too deep on the players. They have given everything in the past few weeks.

“It’s no special occasion for me beating Hampton. I have got a lot of time for the club, I had some great years there.

“We may have to freshen things up a bit on Saturday but it was an important three points.”
