What Happened On Saturday In The National League?

By Sam Elliott

FC Halifax Town are the new National League leaders as they won once more and Bromley slipped again.

The super Shaymen take over at the top as they dug deep to win at Maidenhead United.

Leading scorer Liam McAlinden found the net again and his early goal was enough to take the points in Berkshire - and Town to the summit for the first time since August.

That was because of Barrow, as they won for a sixth game in a row - a new club record.

Bromley’s second defeat in two matches saw the leadership change but Ian Evatt’s team deserve all the credit.

Scott Quigley bundled home the winner, his ninth goal of the season already, to take three points at Hayes Lane as the Bluebirds move up to fifth.

But one team’s incredible winning run is over.

Yeovil couldn’t make it eight from eight as they went down 2-1 at Hartlepool, who won for the first time in six matches.

Jason Kennedy got the winner after Pools went ahead through Gime Toure just after half-time. Rhy Murphy drew the Glovers level but the late drama saw a first defeat since August for the Glovers and Manager of the Month Darren Sarll.

Notts County rescued a point at Dover late on at Dover - it ended 2-2 as Kristian Dennis struck, Neal Ardley’s side twice coming from behind.

Dagenham’s
great run is still going - but draws have somewhat held them back.

That was the case as the Daggers and Barnet finished 1-1. Bees’ Josh Walker responded to an excellent Angelo Balanta opener to secure a point.

In the live BT Sport match, Brendan Kiernan was at the double as his excellent start to the season continued. Harrogate were too strong for Ebbsfleet, 2-0 to the hosts.

The big game at the bottom couldn’t produce a winner as Chorley and Aldershot wouldn’t be separated. It ended 0-0 at Victory Park.

Chesterfield can’t get a run together, they threw away a lead to lose 2-1 at home to Eastleigh.

Woking and Wrexham didn’t particularly enjoy September with just one win between them and their 1-1 draw was typical of recent results. A deflected goal earned the Cards a point.

Torquay United scored a dramatic late winner to make AFC Fylde’s long journey home a painful one.

It’s another defeat for the Coasters as Matt Buse’s late header made it 2-1 with the seconds running out.

Tyrone Marsh scores a very late winner as back-in-form Boreham Wood defeated Solihull Moors 1-0.

After Stockport County ended their losing run with a 0-0 draw at Sutton United, their manager Jim Gannon said: “We had some opportunities but they’ll be frustrated not to have taken any of theirs.”

Today’s National League results:
Boreham Wood 1-0 Solihull Moors
