Vanarama's National League South Fan Preview: Billericay Town

Billericay regular Mike Slowey sets the scene ahead of the new season - and he can't wait for the weekend!

League sponsors Vanarama have been getting the fans’ perspective ahead of the new season - which kicks off this Saturday

It’s getting close now! The new season is nearly upon us - what have Billericay fans got to look forward to?
Having just missed out on the play-offs last season we should be challenging for promotion. Glenn Tamplin will be back and seems in good spirits. Harry Wheeler has done some very good business in the transfer market.

It didn’t quite go the way you dreamt it would last season. Is there a feeling with the new signings coming in that year two could hold big things?
Yes. I think we will be right up there this time. This is our year, we’ve got great squad and there is a really positive vibe at Steel Team Arena!

What’s been the best bit of business done over the past few months?
We have retained a good core of last season’s team and added some class players. They are all leaders in their own right. In pre-season I have been very impressed with Jordan Parkes and Ronnie Henry, pictured, as the newcomers and Alfie Potter and Jack Paxman from last term.

Who will be your one to shine?
Jordan Parkes, our summer signing from Hemel Hempstead.

Who are the other sides to watch out for and could be in the promotion mix?
Havant will be there or thereabouts. Bath City and Welling United will be up there too.

What ground are you most looking forward to paying a visit to?
Local rivals Braintree, that’s the second game of the season. They have just dropped down into the National League South.

And what game must you win more than any other?
Both the Chelmsford City games to avenge last season’s losses.

What opposition player would you most like to see in your side - and what makes him so good?
That’s a tricky one as there has been a lot of player movement. Although not in our league, I would not be adverse to winger Ricky Modeste returning to us from Dover.

The key question comes last - where do you predict your team will finish?
It would be disappointing if we were not in the play-off mix - but I think we will be!

Vanarama have recently launched the National League Club Reward scheme to help fans back their club’s budget. Every time a fan takes out a brand new van lease with Vanarama or a brand new car lease with Motorama their club will earn £100 and you will receive £30 cashback.
