Spireites Surge Out Of Bottom Four As Wrexham Return

Chesterfield fans hope they have turned a corner after jumping out of the bottom four last night - as Wrexham replaced them in it.

It wasn’t the result the Dragons wanted as they wait to discover who they are to face in the Tunnock's Caramel Wafer Cup quarter final at 1pm.

But for Chesterfield, a second successive win hauls the club out of the danger zone and up into 18th.

The 1-0 came via an own goal from Michael Chambers at the Racecourse, but the Spireites won't care how the three points were served up.

Coach Mark Crossley, the former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper, says it was a very good night’ work in north Wales.

“We love one-nils, especially away from home against a good team,” he told the club’s website.

“We’ve been demanding more of the lads over the last few weeks, and in these last two games we’ve definitely got more.

“As staff we won’t get carried away, though, and certainly the manager won’t, but it’s starting to look like the team are working harder and harder for each other.

“That’s all we can ask for in our situation. The back four defended brilliantly, we had strikers coming back to head balls away in the last minute when the team was desperate, so there were lots of positives.

“As I say, we shouldn’t get carried away because we shouldn’t be in this mess at all.

“It was just good for us all to see the lads pulling together to get a good result.”
