Gannon Relieved After Win But Wants To Move On Fast

Jim Gannon says there was "relief and jubilation" on Wednesday night as Stockport County ended their six-game wait for a win.

County took the spoils in their live BT Sport game with Hartlepool United courtesy of first-half goals from new signing Tom Walker and Ash Palmer.

After losing to Maidenhead on the opening game of the new season, the Hatters lost just once in the eight games that followed.

But after an overdue win, their manager Jim Gannon admitted his relief at the result but insists the hard work is only just getting started.

"I think there’s an element of jubilation and relief," he said. "I thought we did enough in the first half to be leading and it was always going to be difficult as Hartlepool took more chances and kept prodding – and they got the goal eventually which caused a bit of drama.

"I don’t think we can get carried away. We had five wins in six last month and we didn’t get then.

"It’s not a question about whether or not you deserve to win games, it’s what you can take and that’s what we’ve done. It’s three massive points at this stage in the season."

In true National League fashion, there's no time to breath with another fixture just around the corner.

Gannon's side welcome inform Dagenham & Redbridge to Edgeley Park on Saturday afternoon before a trip to York City a week later for an FA Cup clash.

"It’s a very tough division so we’ve just got to keep working hard," Gannon said.

"Saturday’s game and then the FA Cup the week after are going to be tough games so we’ll pat ourselves on the back for what we’ve done tonight but there’s a lot of work to be done tomorrow to get these lads right for Saturday."
