The Port haven’t had a campaign to remember so far after the excitetment of club legend Liam Watson returning as manager in the summer.
A number of shrewd signings even had the club spoken about as promotion contenders.
But it’s not worked out like that so far as they have struggled at the foot of the National League North table.
They hope to turn things around by appointing a new captain.
Midfielder David Morgan will now take the armband after the 24-year-old agreed a new long-term contract.
He said: “It’s a huge privilege. I’ve been here just over a year now, so I think I have made my mark on the team and hopefully I can lead by example.”
Port hope he starts well on Tuesday night at home to Curzon Ashton.
