Eliminator Preview: Boreham Wood Vs Dorking Wanderers

By Sam Elliott

Play-off season starts tonight - and there’s a belter of a match to kick it all off.

Boreham Wood and Dorking Wanderers get the ball rolling in the first Eliminator, with a place in the semi-final this weekend up for grabs.

This classic National League South season has even more twists to come.

So let’s take a look at what’s ahead as two of the pre-season promotion favourites go into battle with so much on the line.

Story of the seasons

Both these teams will perhaps be a little disappointed it wasn’t them celebrating on Saturday.

There’s no doubt they didn’t expect to win it on the final day with a number of teams in front of them, but both Boreham Wood and Dorking were counting the cost of points they dropped along the way.

They came down together last season, and the managers have been as good as their word is putting together a serious push for an instant return.

The leading goalscorers:

Boreham Wood:
Kwesi Appiah: 24
Matt Rush: 17
Erico Sousa: 8

Dorking Wanderers:

Alfie Rutherford: 20
Charlie Carter: 14
Jason Prior: 13
Jimmy Muitt: 9

What the managers’ say…

Luke Garrard, Boreham Wood: “Now the real work starts. We’ll be organising and prepared for a difficult game against Dorking.

“The application of the group has been excellent, but w e need to make sure were ready”

“Saturday was about getting that home advantage, and to get up the league as high as possible. It is always about momentum, and we needed to get that.”

Marc White, Dorking Wanderers: “We’re going get the troops together and hope no-one fluff their lines.

“This will be the third time in four years we've been in the play-offs, so that's brilliant success. If a club gets to the play-offs in this division and doesn't get promoted, is that failure? It's probably failure only by the amount that go up.

“I'm very confident in our boys, our away form is formidable. We’ll be suited by the pitch, and very fortunate that they look after their pitch brilliantly. I trust the boys, we need as many fans their as possible.”
