Dowson Gets Quick Return As South And North Nears Climax

By Sam Elliott

Fans of the table toppers have had the calculators out as they frantically try to figure out if they could have things wrapped up in March - even if the managers won’t be saying as much!

Tamworth took a huge step towards the National League North title on Tuesday without even playing as second place Scunthorpe unravelled at Darlington.

As things stand they need 18 more points - but that’s only if the Iron and Chorley win all their matches.

The league leading Lambs await a tricky afternoon at Scarborough, while Scunny go to doomed Bishop’s Stortford. Chorley, who won 4-1 there in midweek, travel to Hereford.

After the Quakers rocked Scunthorpe, they now have their eyes fixed on leaving the bottom four. Can they win a local grudge match at Spennymoor? Steve Watson says it is a meeting of two bang in form teams. Click here for his interview.

Another straggler travels to the North East. King’s Lynn Town are at Blyth Spartans trying to avoid being sucked back into the drop zone.

Rushall Olympic feel they’ve got every chance of survival and will boost their chances with victory at home to Buxton.

It’s almost win or bust for Gloucester City at home to Boston United, who need play-off points. Alfreton hold seventh spot, they go to Farsley Celtic, while there’s a lot on the line when Chester take on Curzon Ashton.

Yeovil Town need a maximum of 16 points to announce themselves as National League South champions. Can they get three of them on Saturday at home to Welling United?

Alan Dowson is back in management at Hemel Hempstead after he offered to step in and take charge of the team on an interim basis for the remaining ten games of the season. First up is a trip to Eastbourne Borough.

Taunton Town won’t relish a trip to Worthing, who are celebrating Ollie Pearce’s call up to the England C squad this week. Anything else bar a win for Havant & Waterlooville at home to Tonbridge Angels will leave fans with that sinking feeling.

Dover Athletic can’t shake that and will edge closer to relegation unless they win at Weston-super-Mare. Chelmsford City are at Truro looking to hold on to second place while Braintree have a visit from Slough Town.

One team sitting just outside the play-off places plays the team tucked inside - can St Albans City leapfrog Maidstone United with a Gallagher Stadium victory this weekend?
