Do It For The Fans! Stones Manager Issues Rallying Cry

Neil Gibson says there’s no way he can let Wealdstone go down without a fight.

The Stones are in severe danger of losing their National League status after five years in the division.

Their position is perilous at the bottom and the fans know even a final day win over FC Halifax Town is not enough to guarantee their survival.

If Dagenham & Redbridge win their game away to Solihull Moors it is they who will stay up - and Gibson says recent poor performances are the reason why they’ve been left relying on favours from elsewhere.

He said: “I’m devastated for everyone at the club that we have slipped into the relegation zone at exactly the wrong time.

“Since I have been here we have been able to avoid it until now, and I’m angry because the situation is now out of our hands.

“I’m also angry about the level of performance and we have all got to take responsibility for that because there’s no way we can accept some of the goals we’ve conceded.”

Because of their inferior goal difference, they must win against the Shaymen - who are hunting a home Eliminator - and hope.

“I have to be open and honest about how things look, as we have to galvanise ourselves very quickly,” he added in an interview with the club’s YouTube channel.

“It’s out of our hands, but we have to give ourselves a fighting chance against Halifax.

“We need to show as a group that we’re committed to keeping Wealdstone in the division - I’m not sure those watching against Southend United would have come to that conclusion.

“We’ve got to dust ourselves down and we’re going to need our supporters to stick with us like they have done all season.”
