Could County Crack National League Record This Weekend?

There could be a little bit of National League history created this weekend.

The division’s record attendance may well be broken as one of the newest members offer their thanks to supporters and the local community.

Notts County’s match at home to AFC Fylde on Saturday may see something special occur.

The highest pre-paid admission for the match stands at just £3 - with anyone over 65, and young people between the ages of 18 and 21, able to see the match for only £2.

With under 18s going in for £1, fans are wondering how many seats in the 18,800 capacity Meadow Lane will be filled.

It’s not the first time the club have slashed their prices. Over 15,000 turned out to see their side in action against Cambridge United in January, with in excess of 17,000 seeing the League Two fixture against Crewe Alexandra in 2018.

It also have people asking what the current record attendance is for a league match outside the Football League.

That gate was recorded by Bristol Rovers against Alfreton in April 2015 - an impressive 11,085 watching at the Memorial Ground.

It’s the highest league game crowd outside the Football League to date.

Notts’ initiative AFC123 could see that broken on Saturday.

Magpies manager Neal Ardley said: “I think this is a fantastic way of Notts County saying ‘thank you’ to the local community for everything they did for the club over the summer.

"As staff and players, we were all given credit for the way we kept going during those difficult months but what cannot be forgotten is the unbelievable support we received not only from our own fans and supporter groups, but also from other local clubs, businesses and communities.

"This match is a huge opportunity for us all to celebrate the fact Notts County are well and truly alive and kicking with a squad of players giving their absolute all for the shirt.

"It was great to experience a similar offer last season when we hosted Cambridge United. There were 15,000 people in the ground and the attendance and atmosphere was an amazing reflection of what this club means to the city of Nottingham.

"I’m sure people will turn out in their droves once again because this is a passionate city of sport and Notts County are right at the heart of it.

"It would also be brilliant to show our new owners the potential of the club by getting a huge crowd inside Meadow Lane.

"Chris and Alex worked wonders in getting us back on an even keel so quickly in the summer and the Fylde match is a great chance to say thank you to them for the commitment they’ve made to the city in keeping Notts County alive."
