Cooper Knows A Commanding Lead Means Nothing Yet

Mark Cooper isn’t fooling himself and knows the Vanarama National League South title race isn’t run yet.

Yeovil Town moved 13 points on Tuesday night, winning 1-0 away at Taunton Town to put themselves into a commanding position at the top of the table.

It’s the biggest gap the Glovers have boasted so far and a fourth win on the bounce saw their late 2023 slips consigned to history.

But the manager doesn’t believe for a minute that the chasing pack will be waving the white flag regardless of their healthy advantage.

“Everyone is looking at us and thinking we should easily beat Taunton, but it’s never that easy, it’s a local derby after all,” he said after their win on the road, the seventh time they’ve taken three points away from Huish Park.

“There’s 20 games left, 60 points to play for. We’re really grounded and we know what we’ve got to do.The lads will have a few days off now as we prepare for Hemel, which we know is going to be a really tough game.”

He challenged Frank Nouble to go on and achieve a personal milestone after grabbing the winner, his ninth of the season already.

Cooper told the club’s media: “He’s been awesome, the big man. It was a fantastic bit of quality from him to win the game. He works really hard for the team.

“He’s on target to get his best ever scoring season. Hopefully there’s plenty more to come.”
