Chesterfield's Title Wait Goes On As Bees Keep Eastleigh At Bay

By Sam Elliott

Chesterfield will have to wait a little longer to be crowned champions after Barnet held on against Eastleigh.

There was some hope the Spireites could win it tonight which looked unlikely when Dale Gorman and Gatlin O’Donkor gave the Bees a 2-0 half-time advantage.

But the chances of Dean Brennan’s side dropping the points needed to gift the title to the runaway leaders were on the rise when Chris Maguire put the Spitfires back in it.

But Barnet held firm - and now Chesterfield hope to do it themselves on Wednesday night when they go to FC Halifax Town.

In the National League North, Blyth Spartans defeated Buxton 3-2 to haul themselves well away from danger, Zanda Siziba was at the double.

King’s Lynn are also surely safe after another year. Jonny Margetts’ 18th minute goal put them ahead at Bishop’s Stortford before the win was made safe by Ben Stephens.

The two National League South matches that did finish both ended as draws.

Jake Gray earned Hampton & RB a point at home to Welling United, who went ahead through Sonny Fish. The other promotion chasers Braintree Town could also only draw, they fired blanks at home to Weymouth.

Elsewhere, a horror injury to Alex Finney saw Eastbourne Borough’s trip to Truro City abandoned.

It wasn't not a night for England C to remember - Paul Fairclough's side went down 1-0 in Wales.
