The Seals were defeated in the National League North Promotion Final and their players had to watch on as Scunthorpe United went up to collect the trophy.
While it was a hard defeat to stomach, McIntyre says he has pride in their performance and believes the experience will make their even stronger as a unit.
Chester finished fourth and went on to beat Buxton and Kidderminster Harriers in the play-offs.
They didn’t have quite enough at Glanford Park and he reflected on how close they came having taken the Iron to extra time.
He said: added: “I can’t ask for any more from the group of players that I’ve had for 49 games, plus the cups. I’m just so proud of them.
“They have been absolutely exceptional to work with. I am very, very proud of them, and so disappointed that we came out on the wrong side of the result in the final.
“We went toe-to-toe with some big clubs and that is just a reflection on the players.
“We’ve had a right go for 49 games and we gave it everything.”
He pin-pointed where the Promotion Final perhaps got away from his side.
“I thought were were absolutely tremendous in the second half, and I thought we looked like we were going to win the game.
“We had some moments to create chances and maybe not done the right thing and they are, in big games, those fine margins come out on the wrong side of.
“We didn’t have enough physically and that is probably the difference between the two sides."
