Brown Determined To Keep Kiddy's On-Fire Ash On His Toes!

Kidderminster Harriers manager Phil Brown hauled Ashley Hemmings in for a chat before the weekend over fears he’s gone “off the boil”.

The hard-to-please Aggborough boss wasn’t totally satisfied with his forward’s double digit scoring record in March so called him into his office - and was rewarded with a hat-trick to inspire what he hopes is a huge April, writes George Busby.

The 34-year-old was in electric form for the Harriers at the weekend as he propelled his team to all three points in a crucial 3-0 win against Curzon Ashton.

However, his manager had a few choice words for him after the game saying he hasn’t been at his very best for a few matches.

“I just thought he'd come off the boil a little bit and just took his foot off the gas” the experienced former Bolton Wanderers and Hull City manager said on the club’s YouTube channel.

“Maybe he was looking at how many goals he’d scored, and sometimes you can get happy with that and relaxed with that. I’ve always said to to player - re-set the target, press the re-set button. Once you think you’re there, do it again.”

Hemmings has been in incredible form this season, scoring 29 goals so far this term, with an astonishing 14 goals in his previous 10 games.

He was also voted National League North Player of the Month last week, as his goals have been a massive boost to Kidderminster's title hopes.

The attacker's red hot form also sees him as one of the highest scoring players in England over the past six week.

Kidderminster currently sit in second place, level on points with Brackley Town and just one point behind first place Scunthorpe United, meaning the title race will go right down to a thrilling conclusion.

With all three clubs well within a chance at the title, Harriers boss Brown was overjoyed with their win at the weekend and said: “I honestly thought that was going to be a tougher game. When we scored the first goal that was so important

“The first five, six, seven minutes of the second half were nerve racking times. We got the second goal and that's a little bit of breathing space”.

Kidderminster’s next game is an away trip to Rushall Olympic on Good Friday.
