Boss Gray Urges His Minstermen To Shape Up For Play-Off Push

Martin Gray has called on his York City side to cut out their defensive errors as they look to confirm their play-off spot.

The Minstermen drew 1-1 at home against Alfreton Town on Saturday and whilst they would have wanted more, they did move up to fifth in the National League North.

Gray’s men have only won one of their last six League games and face a difficult trip to Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday.

And the boss knows that they have to tighten up defensively if they are to win promotion back to the National League.

"We pride ourselves on the work we do,” Gray told the club’s website. "You all have individual people to mark, you all have the names and numbers, and it's down to them taking responsibility.

“We didn't do that well enough - for once in the game - and it only takes the once. You have got to live and die in both boxes. You can't afford to make one error because you do get punished.

“There are a lot of positives as much as we are disappointed to lose two points. There are no real concerns apart from one major mistake that cost us two points.

“Now we have got to get ready for Kidderminster and build on the point we have gained.”
