Bennett Signs New Boro Deal

Last season's top scorer Justin Bennett has extended his deal with....

.....Vanarama National League South club Gosport Borough to end media speculation about his future.

Bennett signed a new deal at the Boro after the 2-2 draw away at Truro City which will see his contract extended two and a half years until the end of the 2017/18 season.

The club also have an option on the striker's services to extend for a further year which could see him remain at Gosport until 2019.

The new contract is seen as a reward for his goals and consistent performances over the last seven years, which has made him a true legend at the club with Boro' fans.

Bennett’s goals have been the bed rock of the club’s success over the last few years, which has not gone unnoticed by rival clubs.

Recently the club turned down a £12,500 offer for his services from local rivals Havant & Waterlooville and this new contract, now ends the speculation in the media.

Manager Alex Pike said: "I am delighted that Justin has committed himself to the club, which will probably see him end his playing days here.

"He has been a model professional and a joy to manage. The word 'Legend' is often bandied about to describe a player but in his case it can be used in the true sense of the word.

"I am proud he chose Gosport to play his best football at. Two play-off wins, an FA Trophy final at Wembley, an FA Cup First Round appearance and a Hampshire Senior Cup win at Fratton Park are not bad memories to have.

"With Justin on board for the next two and a half years or so I am confident, together, we can make even more memories.

"There are cynics who will say that loyalty in the modern game is dead and the money will always talk. Well there is always the exception that proves the rule. Thank you Justin."
