Back With A Bang! 'Intense' Blyth Show Promotion Quality

Blyth Spartans boss Alun Armstrong was delighted to see his side return to winning ways against Brackley Town - because he doesn’t know how to handle defeats!

Armstrong’s reign at Croft Park has been filled with positivity but their recent run of three straight defeats was tough to take.

Fortunately for the ex-Middlesbrough forward, Spartans returned to their best on Saturday, comfortably seeing off Brackley Town 3-0.

Blyth were two goals to the good inside five minutes as they shocked their fellow promotion hopefuls - the perfect response to last week’s 3-0 defeat at Darlington.

Armstrong told BBC Newcastle: “It’s a great day compared to last Saturday! I have to credit the lads because they reacted exactly like I wanted them to.

“We started really well and the most pleasing thing for me was to see the game out really comfortably.

“We worked in training about getting the intensity back in our play to the levels we’ve had before.

“The result will give the players a massive boost. We’ve been on a little bit of a downer and it’s the first time for me as a manager where I’ve lost three or four in a row.

“We’ve been used to winning games so we weren’t really sure how to deal with it as a squad or management team. We just kept trying to play our football the way we do and the lads will hopefully now kick on.”
