A Bad Day At The Office? Not For Macc's Angry Askey

John Askey was certainly not in the mood to call league leaders Macclesfield Town’s 6-0 hammering at AFC Fylde ‘just one of those days’.

The Silkmen stunned everyone when they went down to a heavy defeat on Saturday afternoon.

Manager Askey says he couldn’t believe what he was watching - and wasn’t going to write the afternoon off as a bad day at the office. Watch Match Highlights Here.

Macc’s lead at the top of the National League has been cut to three points and he knows his side must put their recent iffy form to one side when they host bottom club Torquay United on Saturday.

This appears to be their biggest mental test to date and after holding the leadership for five weeks now, the Moss Rose manager is in no mood to let it go.

Askey said: “We’re still top, we’ve still had a good season but the performance wasn’t anywhere near acceptable.

“We were nowhere near good enough in any position and it was an afternoon we need to forget very quickly.

“Our position is still good at the top of the league but it’s hard to defend losing 6-0. The players know it was unacceptable.

“Now we need to react and put it right. We’ve got some very big games coming up.”

After play Torquay on Saturday, Macclesfield host Guiseley before going to title rivals Aldershot Town on February 17.
