Your Weekend Starts Here! So What's In Store On Saturday?

By Sam Elliott

We’re approaching matchday 19 in the National League already - and even now we’ve started to separate the men from the boys!

We’re not quite in sight of the half-way mark just yet but it’ll be here before you know it.

So that’s why Saturday’s programme is so important, especially with the FA Cup coming hot on its heels.

Wrexham were top last Saturday before letting in late against Chesterfield - and they led the table at half-time on Tuesday before Salford City clawed it back against Barnet.

Will it be third time lucky for Sam Ricketts’ side when they welcome Gateshead, Steve Watson’s men still licking their wounds from a heartbreaking late loss at Fylde.

Salford turned on the second half style in midweek but they haven’t had many home comforts to speak of lately. Dropping points against Braintree and Ebbsfleet offered others hope so they’ll be pleased to be away again at Eastleigh.

Leyton Orient are one point off top spot and in probably the game of the day they go to AFC Fylde looking to prove a point to their title rivals.

Harrogate Town bounced back well on Tuesday by thumping Barrow but they will need another show of strength against a spirited Chesterfield.

It’s a fair assumption that Maidenhead United are not enjoying National League life right now.

After letting in six goals against Fylde, they were hit for seven at Havant & Waterlooville.

Their match at bottom club Dover Athletic is massive in both side’s seasons.

FC Halifax may still be without a league win since August but they ended October with a very good draw at Solihull. Now they head to Havant who tore the Magpies to pieces in midweek while the Moors welcome Boreham Wood.

Braintree Town’s recovery is gathering pace. It’s seven points from nine available and they could even jump out of the relegation zone if they win at Aldershot - the ground where they were relegated in April 2017.

Ebbsfleet United and Barrow both want a win to boost convince.

Hartlepool United need to put a tough few days to one side when they go to Bromley but Dagenham’s tails are up - they’re at Sutton United.

Maidstone United are back in the bottom four and Harry Wheeler knows the importance of a win at Barnet.

Saturday’s National League fixtures:
AFC Fylde v Leyton Orient
Aldershot Town v Braintree
Barnet v Maidstone United
Bromley v Hartlepool
Dover v Maidenhead
Eastleigh v Salford City
Ebbsfleet v Barrow
Harrogate v Chesterfield
