York Will Look To Put Down An Early Marker Says Watson

Steve Watson thinks York's tough early fixtures are a good chance to lay down a marker to their promotion rivals.

The Minstermen have games against Altrincham, Blyth Spartans, Spennymoor Town and Brackley within the first month of the season - all sides who finished in the top seven.

Watson also faces the visit of his previous employers Gateshead.

And although he admits he can't control fixtures, it is a good chance to show what they're about from the off.

"You do [look for certain games] as a fan but as a manager and players, you see the fixtures and get on with it," he told the York Press.

"It's a tough league and the start of the season will let everybody know where we're at.

"Nothing bothers me about the fixtures. They're out of our hands - we'll have to play everybody at some stage."

The Vanarama National League North 2019/20 season gets back underway on August 3.
