Wood Already Fit And Firing For The New Season

By David Richardson

Luke Garrard was thrilled with the condition his Boreham Wood players returned to pre-season in as they head to Devon for a training camp.

The National League club began preparations for the new season last Wednesday and left for the West Country yesterday.

Boreham have made some impressive signings so far this summer after somewhat of a clear out, adding Barnet midfielder Tom Champion and Dagenham and Redbridge's veteran striker Paul Benson.

Playmaker Keiran Murtagh also joined from Woking along with Stevenage's Dean Wells, and Bradley Ash on a season-long loan from Barnsley.

Garrard told the club's website: “It’s a different era now, they all came back fit and that allows us to get the balls out earlier than we would have previously, so I am very happy.

"I thought that our skipper Mark Ricketts came back strong, Tom Champion and Paul Benson as well, Keiran Murtagh, Dean Wells and some of the youngsters look very strong too.

"It was impressive and overall, I am very, very happy with how they returned."

The Wood are now away in Devon for six nights as Garrard aims for his new look squad to bond.

"I think that it is going to be a massive opportunity for us to bed them in early doors," he added.

"We will be doing double sessions every day and the facilities down at the hotel are phenomenal, so I think that it is going to be a very worthwhile exercise and it will allow us to get the togetherness there within the first two weeks."
