Who Is Going To Shine In The South On New Year's Day?

By Sam Elliott

So who’s year will pick up inside a few hours, and who will wishing 2019 could start all over again!

The Boxing Day fixture are reversed on New Year’s Day - there will be plenty of records to be put straight so who will begin the new year with a result to remember?

Torquay United are the team they all need to stop. The leaders have won their last eight games but will Tuesday be the day that run comes to an end?

They travel to Truro City backed by an army of travelling fans in Cornwall - but the White Tigers have found their teeth and go into the game on the back of Saturday’s fine 4-1 win at relegation rivals Hungerford.

Woking manager Alan Dowson returns to Hampton - and he has given his team and himself a blast despite six wins in a row.

“In the first half we were pathetic,” said Dowson after the win over Eastbourne. “I got it wrong. I should have given a few of them a breather and I never, I went against the advice of everybody and I thought I knew best.”

Concord Rangers are up to a season best third - and Sammy Moore wants full focus when struggling East Thurrock United visit.

Welling United, in fourth, have a derby game with Dartford and after the Wings’ 2-0 victory on Boxing Day there’s sure to be a reaction.

Wealdstone certainly need one of those - Bobby Wilkinson’s team haven’t won since beating Hemel in mid-November. They face Slough, who have enjoyed a very good last week.

Billericay have lost their last three - including a 5-1 humbling at Chelmsford City.

Their title bid won’t have many legs left if the Clarets put another one over them on New Year’s Day.

Bath City are just a place outside the top seven - but with just a point between them and fourth place Welling Jerry Gill will think a home win over Chippenham will be enough to take them in.

There’s a huge game at the bottom and both know if they don’t get better quickly, relegation is a certainty.

Gloucester City welcome Weston-super-Mare and the winner’s season will get a huge boost as they battle to stay up.

Herts pride is at stake as Hemel Hempstead and St Albans go at it again while Oxford City meet again Hungerford after the 1-1 draw on Boxing Day.

Dulwich Hamlet beat Eastbourne over Christmas as they returned home but now they travel to the south coast looking to repeat the trick.
