What’s In Store In The National League South On Saturday?

By Sam Elliott

We could be about to see an important piece of history in the National League South on Saturday.

Torquay United could be about to lift the club’s first league title - since 1927!

The Gulls need things to go their way this weekend but the fans are already planning a party.

Gary Johnson’s side require a win at home to troubled Eastbourne Borough and hope the Woking drop points at Chelmsford City.

Alan Dowson has happy memories of Melbourne Park, though. That’s where his old Hampton side won through to last year’s promotion final.

Torquay’s lead is seven points after with three games left to go after the weekend programme, positive news means they cannot be caught.

Elsewhere the race for the play-offs is a lot tighter.

Dartford we’re looking good for another top seven slot not long ago but they’ve still got work to do.

Chippenham arrive at Princes Park with a flea in their ear after manager Mark Collier told his players they are playing for their futures.

Three clubs sitting just outside will feel they still have a great chance.

St Albans City will know if they win at Bath City things really close up. Likewise Concord Rangers will be confident if they win at home to Oxford City.

Wealdstone occupy a top seven place and Bobby Wilkinson’s team make a short trip to Hampton.

Welling United need one more win says Steve King and they have the chance to get it at Slough Town.

Billericay Town must pick themselves up quickly or risk missing out. They’re at Gloucester City who know a win could set them on the way to safety.

East Thurrock’s season could depend on their home game with Weston-super-Mare.

The Seagulls will go down if results go again them but a victory for John Coventry’s team will push the Rocks closer to salvation.

Truro City are back in the bottom three and know it’s time to start winning. They go to Hemel Hempstead, who will just be glad the season didn’t start in the New Year.

Victory for Hungerford at Dulwich Hamletis crucial with so many teams battling to stay in the league.
