What Happened In Monday Evening's Pre-Season Games?

By Sam Elliott

A handful of our teams were involved in pre-season games on Monday night as they finalise preparations ahead of Saturday’s opening weekend, writes Tom Scott.

Gloucester City finished pre-season with a competitive edge. They played Bristol City in the final of the Gloucestershire Senior Cup Final.

Joe Hanks’ goal send the game to penalties after a 1-1 final score before the Tigers lost narrowly 7-6.

Martin Allen’s Chesterfield have had varying fortunes throughout pre-season and ended their series of warm-up games with a 4-2 loss away to Matlock Town.

Allen put faith in a lot of the club’s youngsters for the short trip across Derbyshire with only a handful of the club’s first team players featuring.

Luke Rawson and a trialist got on the scoresheet for the Spireites who begin their season at Ebbsfleet on Saturday.

Chorley took the lead against Fleetwood Town thanks to Josh Wilson’s close-range finish inside the ten-minute mark.

Fleetwood scored two goals in as many minutes just before the break and the game finished 2-1 to the visitors.

Of course it was a repeat of last season's FA Cup tie, where again the EFL club came out on top, pictured.

John Still took his Barnet side to South West London for their final pre-season game against Hampton & Richmond Borough.

The Bees ran out comfortable winners on the night, winning 3-0 thanks to a brace from Nana Kyei before the interval and one after the break from Fumnaya Shomotun.

Hertford’s Tommy Wade bagged a first-half hat trick to condemn St Albans City to a disappointing 3-1 defeat in their final game before Saturday’s opener.

A makeshift Saints defence couldn’t keep out the striker in the first half and a second half goal from Zane Banton was merely a consolation for the visitors.
