Weavers Carries The Can As Harrogate Miss Their Chance

Simon Weaver saw his Harrogate Town side blow the chance to top the National League North last night and said: blame me.

Town were undone at second-from-bottom Nuneaton Town - a result which put a spanner in the works of the title chasers.

Harrogate had the opportunity to overtake Salford City for the first time since November but the 2-1 defeat means they must wait for the chance to reclaim top spot.

Speaking to the National League’s Oli Osborn, Weaver told supporters he was at fault for the Liberty Way loss - and that his side will bounce back.

“It’s a bitterly disappointing night,” said Weaver, who was frustrated by his side’s defending against a club scrapping for survival.

“We looked unorganised and a bit of a ramshackle outfit if I am being honest - which is a surprise for a team who have been in the top two or three all season.

“It’s a turn up for the books but maybe this is a learning curve for us. We knew their threats, we knew the system they play and we didn’t do what we needed to do.

“For a team to look that unorganised, well you have to blame the manager - it’s my fault.

“We were terrible, and therefore I was terrible because that was my team out there.”

Now he wants a reaction, starting this Saturday.

“I’ll dust myself down and we will come back fighting,” he said.

“What we’ll do is tighten things up and make sure we are ready to go again at St Albans in the FA Trophy.”
