Watson's First Win Is 'Just A Starting Point' Says New Boss

Steve Watson says the win at Alfreton is the starting point for York City’s recovery.

The Minstermen eased their National League North relegation fears with a 3-2 victory.

They went into the game one place above the dropzone after going down in new boss Watson’s first two games in charge.

But he praised his players for digging deep having secured his first win as York’s manager.

Considering we were so low on confidence, the only way to put that right was by getting a really good result,” he said.

“True to form we have gifted them a goal but we had some good moments in the first half without every really taking hold of the game.

“What we did was keep ourselves in the game. We looked a little bit lost for a period in the second half but we kept going and kept battling.

“We got that little bit of luck today where we haven’t in the weeks before it. It was hard work,” he added.

“I want us to play better than that, but it’s a starting point now. It won’t mean anything if we don’t follow it up on Tuesday.”
