Waring Seals Move To Tranmere

Tranmere Rovers have today completed the signing of striker George Waring on a contract which runs until the end of the 2018/19 season.

The 22-year-old had a spell in the academy at Everton before completing his scholarship at Stoke City and then turning professional with the Potteries club.

He made his senior debut in 2014/15 during a loan spell with Barnsley in League One where he scored in his first appearance against Yeovil Town before going on to make nineteen appearances.

During the second half of the 2015/16 season, Waring spent time out on loan with Oxford United where the forward helped the U’s to promotion from League Two.

Last season, Waring teamed up with current Rovers manager Micky Mellon with a loan period with Shrewsbury Town before ending the campaign with a temporary move to Carlisle United, playing his part as The Cumbrians reached the League Two play-offs.

Mellon said of the signing: “I’m really pleased to be able to bring George to the club.

“He’s someone who I’ve known for a long time and was able to get him to Shrewsbury last season. I enjoyed working with him there and know the qualities he will bring to the group.

“He has a lot of experience for a lad of his age and has had a great grounding at Stoke City.

“He’s 6`4” and plays like it, in terms of his hold up play and the way he attacks the football but he is also very technical and gets around the pitch well so he ticks all the boxes”.
