Waddock's Left Fuming After His Shots Are Humbled

Aldershot Town boss Gary Waddock admitted he got his team selection wrong after seeing his side slump to a shock 7-1 defeat at AFC Fylde.

The Shots conceded in the second minute but equalised shortly after before an almighty collapse at Mill Farm.

Fylde were 5-1 up at the break and added two more in the second-half as Waddock’s side were humbled in Lancashire.

Aldershot are now eight points adrift of leaders Macclesfield Town and Waddock was understandably angry after their collapse.

“I’d like to apologise to the supporters for the performance, result and outcome of the game,” the boss told Shots TV.

“The bottom line is I got the team selection wrong so I need to have a long, hard look at that and make sure it’s correct for our next game.

“When you concede a goal after one minute, 20 seconds, you have a massive task ahead of you. They’re a very good side, they were outstanding, but we gave them momentum.

“We found a way back into the game but then the goals we conceded after that have been nothing short of an absolute shambles.”

Waddock also pointed out that his side have been letting their standards slip in recent weeks after a run of one win in five games.

“I’ve seen the danger signs for a little while now, it’s not just today,” he added.

“It’s been coming and we got what we deserved today - absolutely nothing. Goal difference could play an important role in what we’re trying to achieve and it will be a big negative for us. It’s been a disastrous day.”
