Tuesday Night Preview: National League South

By Sam Elliott

With two of the top teams in action last night, it’s now down to the chasing pack in the Vanarama National League South to do their bit.

Of course, East Thurrock United’s win over leaders Chelmsford City stole the overnight headlines but can the catch up clubs have an evening to remember too?

There is another very big game at the top and Havant & Waterlooville know if they can keep their incredible away form going then we will have a third new leader inside two days.

The Hawks have yet to even let in a goal on their travels but at St Albans City later on they know they face a real test of their title credentials.

Truro City also have eyes of closing the gap following a start to the season that has surprised even their most optimistic of supporters.

The question is, can Lee Hodges’ White Tigers keeping it going? They will answer that question if they can get one over Chippenham Town in Cornwall in a few hours time.

Dartford are going about their business quietly, and so are Eastbourne Borough.

A great match is in prospect at Princes Park this evening that’s for sure and Sports manager Jamie Howell said: “There’s not many more difficult places to go in the league right now.

“But we go to Dartford with confidence. It’s got the makings of a good game.”

Whitehawk must find that first win sooner rather than later. If it comes at Welling United tonight, then their season get get up and running.

Hemel Hempstead have a big home match against Bognor Regis and their manager Dean Brennan knows it’s an important match.

“We have won our last two games and we just need to keep on winning and we’ll see where it takes us,” the Vauxhall Road boss said.

“But we’re playing well and it would be great to make in three in a row tonight.”

Oxford City welcome Weston-Super-Mare who are much improved - and their manager Marc McGregor thinks his side should have won at Chelmsford City on Saturday.

There is an Essex derby at Concord Rangers and as Braintree Town pay the Aspect Arena a visit.

Both teams have different ambitions and after losing at Hemel last time out Bradley Quinton is demanding a reaction from the Iron this evening.
