The Weekend Starts Here! So What's In Store On Saturday?

By Sam Elliott

You’re about to hear a lot about the FA Cup over the next few days but don’t let that distract you - there’s still a bumper National League programme to sink your teeth into!

Two title contenders are in action and there’s also a return to an old club for a manager doing rather well at his new home.

Andy Hessenthaler is back at Eastleigh on Saturday weeks after leaving for the challenge of keeping Dover Athletic from the National League South.

With three wins already, and two in his last two games, he has started well. But his old side are in good shape too and after Tuesday’s fine 3-1 win over Maidstone they take no mercy on Kent clubs looking to avoid relegation!

There was not much FA Cup luck for Leyton Orient or for Salford City this year.

After replay defeat to Shrewsbury Town, the Ammies’ original home fixture with Havant & Waterlooville remains.

They will go back to the top if they beat Lee Bradbury’s side and Orient drop points at home to Gateshead.

O’s boss Justin Edinburgh called the Heed a “very good side” in the build up - can Steve Watson’s men continue their excellent away form in the capital?

Harrogate Town fell seven points off the leaders on Tuesday as they lost a five-goal thriller at Salford.

Simon Weaver’s side really need to win at back-in-form Maidenhead if they are to continue their title charge.

AFC Fylde are picking up the promotion pace. Strong at home, they’ll be looking to sent Sutton United back to London empty handed.

Dagenham are showing promotion form - if only they didn’t have such a slow first few months.

After five wins from six, can they make it 12 points from four games by adding to managerless Hartlepool United’s problems?

Two sides who maybe expected more this season after meeting in the play-offs last May meet.

Aldershot, boosted by a brave display at Leyton Orient on Tuesday, host Ebbsfleet United who have happy memories from the EBB Stadium from nearly eight months ago.

Braintree Town know they need to start winning and quickly - victory over improving Barrow will keep their hopes of a second half of the season revival going.

Saturday’s National League fixtures:
AFC Fylde v Sutton United
Aldershot v Ebbsfleet United
Braintree v Barrow
Eastleigh v Dover Athletic
Hartlepool v Dagenham & Red
Leyton Orient v Gateshead
