The Magic Of The Cup! Our Preview Of The Weekend's Action

By Tom Scott

The FA Cup is back this weekend and with our teams just one game away from the first round, we’re picking out the seven biggest ties of the round.

Dunston UTS v Gateshead
The competition’s lowest ranked team, Dunston UTS made all the headlines after dumping Chester out of the competition. Steve Watson will be hoping his side don’t get camera shy and continue their fine away form.

Marine v Salford City
This is the type of game the FA Cup was built for! Can the Evo-Stik League side pull off the scalp of the National League leaders? It’s got all the ingredients.

Harrogate v Wrexham
Wrexham have been in great form recently and will be well up for their trip to North Yorkshire to face Harrogate Town. Town manager Simon Weaver has been calling on his side to make Wetherby Road a fortress which could lead to a thrilling encounter.

Blyth Spartans v York City
Two sides who are steeped in FA Cup history are Blyth Spartans and York City and they will do battle at Croft Park on Saturday. Sam Collins will no doubt be looking to increase his stock at York City with a cup run.

Stockport County v Altrincham
A derby game is always a talking point but when there’s a place in the FA Cup first-round proper riding on it, there’s always an extra edge. Neither Stockport County or Altrincham will want to lose their North-West clash.

Barnet v Braintree
The good thing about the cup is the break from league form, even if it’s just for one game. Barnet and Braintree will both be looking for a cup win to reboot their league campaigns.

Chorley v Barrow
Chorley face a test of what could await them in the National League next season if they continue their promotion charge. Ian Evatt’s Barrow are in town looking to rain on the Magpies’ parade.
