The Friday Feature: Chambers Can Feel Nuneaton Momentum

Ashley Chambers has had plenty of success in the FA Trophy after winning the competition with York City during the 2012/13 season, he knows what doing well in the competition could do for Nuneaton Town.

The attacker has impressed this season for the side helping them in recent weeks to pick up vital wins, writes Tom Feaheny.

"I think winning games always brings a momentum, we’re not getting carried away but we’re happy with how we’re progressing as a team and with the youth we have in the squad consistency is always going to be difficult," Chambers said.

"We’ve got a good group that all want to listen and learn and that’s starting to show in individual and collective performances.

It has now been over a month since Dino Maamria took charge of Town and Chambers has praised the impact he has had on the side.

"It has been really good, he came in and you can tell straight the way that his worked in the Football League for the majority of his coaching career and he's tried to implement the professionalism and mindset of the Football League into the club. He’s got principles about how he wants us to play and I think game by game we are looking better and better as we mould into his team."

Chambers knows that Nuneaton Town have a tough game coming up in the FA Trophy but also the reward it there if they can beat National League opposition.

"I think any competition where the possibility of playing at Wembley is always hugely important. We all know that if we can perform to our best in the competition and have a bit of luck along the way it could become reality. Barrow will be a really tough game but it’s also a great chance to go up against a side a league above so we can gauge where we are as a team."

Chambers had a successful spell at fellow National League North side York City and he spoke about his memorable time there.

"It was fantastic from start to finish, the cup run itself had everything, a replay, extra time but then to go to Wembley and win it was unbelievable, it set us up for an unforgettable week, we played them at their place this season it was really special, I got a lovely welcome back and I always love going back because they hold a special place in my heart after a great and successful stint there."

Chambers believes the quality of the National League North is improving as each season passes.

"There are more and more players with real quality filtering down out of the league for different reasons but it's only making the leagues stronger and I think that will only keep improving as players will hear and see that non league is more competitive than ever."
