Spennmoor Aren't Just Here For The Ride!

Spennymoor Town won’t be entering the Vanarama National League North just to make up the numbers.

That is the view of their midfielder Jamie Chandler, who is already counting down the days until the start of the new season.

Jason Ainsley’s team were promoted from the Evo-Stik NPL Premier League last season. They join their new league alongside Blyth Spartans, the division's champions.

Chandler has plenty of higher level experience and is looking forward to a reunion with his former club Darlington.

Spenny have a baptism of fire in their first few games at this level, according to the 28-year-old player.

Their first match is at home to Stockport County, before two testing away games at FC United of Manchester and at Boston United.

But they’re not running scared. Chandler said: “We know it is going to be difficult but who wouldn’t look forward to big games in front of big crowds?

“We can’t wait to get stuck in. This division is littered with big clubs but we’ve worked our way up through the leagues and the club deserves these fixtures, no doubt about it.

“We’re not coming up just for a few good days out mind you,” he added. “We’re going to be difficult opposition and hard to beat.”

Chandler thinks the playoff winners have a great spirit. He said: “You need it to win promotion but we’ve also got a good side full of the right blend of experience and good young players.”

Chandler doesn’t have to wait long before his return to Darlington and Town are due at their neighbours on August Bank Holiday.
