Something For The Weekend: National Lg South

By Sam Elliott

The National League South bursts back this weekend - and it’s not exactly making a low key return!

There’s one enormous match plus plenty of others to whet the appetite and as always we’re here to provide the build up.

It’s an exciting time of the year for football fans and with some massive games to look forward to over the next few weeks in the closest league around, we’ll make sure you won’t want to miss a kick.

So sit back and let us guide you through the first instalment of matches this Saturday.

There’s so much to look forward to over the Christmas and New Year so wrap up warm and buckle your seatbelts!

Dartford v Braintree Town

Yes there’s the small matter of El Classico this weekend, but it terms of importance to the league table nothing comes close to this game anywhere on Saturday.

Two of the three joint leaders go to war at Princes Park and separated by just goal difference this has all the makings of a humdinger.

Both managers have already stressed nothing will be decided in Kent on Saturday. Both, though, know just what three points would do. It’s first v second and of course it’s our special feature game.

Truro City v Gloucester City

Think back to the summer and a good number of tipsters had things the wrong way around. Truro, on the back of a poor season, didn’t look to be going anyway while Gloucester were spoken of in terms of being dark horses.

Things never quite work out the way you think and it’s the White Tigers in the play-off places and one win away from top spots as the normal Tigers struggle to discover their bite.

This is a big one as new Gloucester manager Marc Richards makes his bow. It’s a tough place to go with the side badly needing a win to re-energise their season.

Oxford City v Hampton & RB

Crucial at both ends of the table, and don’t both managers know it.

Hampton’s great climb from the lower reaches of the table to joint top is the story of the season so far, and while Oxford were doing great things in the FA Cup they now need to keep showing that spirit in the league.

The Beavers are looking for league win number nine in a row but head to Oxfordshire with an FA Trophy humbling at Heybridge Swifts on Tuesday dampening their mood.

Oxford have taken four points from their last two games and have won their last two at home. Are they the side to halt Hampton’s incredible winning run?
