Something For The Weekend: National League

By David Richardson

The next lot of fixtures are right around the corner - we've picked out three key games coming up this weekend.

Eastleigh vs Barrow
Even with over half of the season's fixtures still to play, this is a big clash at the wrong end of the table. Eastleigh have badly lacked consistency so far, their recent form provides strong evidence of that: LDWLWL. Richard Hill has been plagued by injury problems to his squad and has called on supporters to be patient before the cavalry arrive. They are seven points above Saturday's opponents, in 17th.

For Barrow, life under Ady Pennock began very promisingly with a home win over Aldershot Town. But they were unable to build on that last week as high-flying Macclesfield Town edged them out 2-0. Now they make the gruelling trip to the south coast hoping to close the gap on those above them. This is one of our featured games on Saturday so make sure you're following us on Twitter and Instagram for full coverage.

Hartlepool United vs Aldershot Town
Craig Harrison's Hartlepool could make serious in roads on the top 10 if they take maximum points on Saturday. Just four separate Pools in 12th to Maidstone United in 5th and they're only two behind the weekend's visitors. Hartlepool have made steady progress over the last two months and are currently seven unbeaten in the National League. They've conceded just four goals in that run and now boast the fourth best defensive record in the league.

However, Aldershot come to town as the division's highest scorers and returned to winning ways last week with a late victory over AFC Fylde at home. Gary Waddock has had to deal with plenty of injuries to his squad and will be without influential midfielder Manny Oyeleke for three games, who was shown a straight red card against Fylde.

Wrexham vs Ebbsfleet United
Wrexham moved within touching distance of the National League leaders with a win over rivals Chester a little over a week ago. After not playing last weekend, they're three points behind table toppers Dover Athletic and two adrift of Macclesfield, in second. Dean Keates' side have conceded the joint-least amount of goals in the National League with Dover but they come up against a side at the Racecourse, who are just as difficult to beat.

Ebbsfleet have lost just three times this season and if it wasn't for having drawn 10 matches, they'd be even further up the table in their first year back in the National League. The experienced Danny Kedwell is beginning to creep up the goalscoring charts with seven and he'll look to add to that by breaching Wrexham's water tight defence.
