Shut Up Shop! Torquay Boss Owers Thrilled By Stingy Gulls

Improving Torquay United gave manager Gary Owers further hope that they will avoid relegation this afternoon.

A 0-0 draw with league leaders Aldershot Town represented a good day at the office for the Gulls boss.

He told the club’s official website that he was pleased his players didn’t fear the table toppers, who drop to fourth place after a good day for their rivals.

Torquay are on the move too and are now fourth from bottom and Owers sees big progress with his team now plunging the goals gap.

“I thought it was a good solid performance from us,” said Owers after the goalless draw at Plainmoor.

“Particularly in the second half where I thought we took the game to Aldershot a little bit more than we did and we may have just nicked it in the end, although I have to say we’re playing against a very good team and I’m pleased that in the last three games we’ve conceded no goals.

“I couldn’t fault anyone today if I’m honest. The lads at the back are defending resolutely, a couple of great blocks.

“We’re working hard from the top of the pitch really. Everybody has put a shift in, everybody’s being honest and that’s all I can ask.”

Owers added: “They’ve [Aldershot] had a tough week and we knew that and we finished the game strongly which is a credit to our players.

“They’ve worked really hard on the training ground over a number of weeks now and hopefully, we can bare the fruits of our labour.”
