Saints Refuse To Give Up Despite A New Stadium Blow

St Albans City have urged their club’s fans to show on in great numbers at a vital council meeting on Tuesday to get their new stadium back on the agenda.

The Saints have received a blow after discovering their vision for the area with a 6,000 ground was not include in the council’s Strategic Local Plan.

The club still believe in their plan and think fan-power can make a difference on Tuesday when council officers meet to debate the proposals.

St Albans feel a sea of yellow and blue will leave a lasting impression and show how much a new stadium is needed.

“The club has learned that the proposed Noke Lane development, which included its sustainable community stadium, community pitches, much-needed local housing along with local employment opportunities, was not included in St Albans District Council’s proposal for the Strategic Local Plan," the Saints said.

“The club wholeheartedly disagrees with the decision and believes that it appears to rest on a technicality.

“To make sure that we fully understood what was needed for us to progress, we met with members of the planning department, consulted with experts in this field, and then submitted a representation in good time. We believe that the Club met all the requirements for the development of that site, including clear evidence of very special and exceptional circumstances.

“St Albans District Council has said that it supports the club in its need to relocate, however has not given any indication of what form this support may take.

“On Tuesday 22nd May there will be a meeting of the Planning Policy Committee at the Council offices at 7pm, which Lawrence Levy and John McGowan will attend, along with members of the community and supporter groups.

“The club has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from all sections of the City and District of St Albans. It shows how loyal and passionate our fans are. As such we are hugely grateful that supporters of all ages plan to attend the council offices on Tuesday to demonstrate their support for our vision.

“We know that all gestures of support for the future of St Albans City FC will be done in a manner that upholds the values of respect and fair play that embody the spirit of football.”
