Saints Don't Chuck Away Their FA Cup Second Chance

Ian Allinson suggested an improvement in attitude and professionalism was the main reason why St Albans City didn’t throw away another big lead last night.

The Saints are through in the FA Cup 3QR after this time holding a 2-0 advantage against Cambridge City of the Evo-Stik South East League.

It was a far cry from Saturday’s first match where they let the Step 4 club back into it to force last night’s replay.

Manager Allinson was full of praise for his players as there wasn’t a repeat of the weekend horror show.

“I think the mentality of the players was different to what it was on Saturday,” he said. “We spoke at length after the first match and before the replay in terms of what was expected.

“We fell short on Saturday and could well have been out of the FA Cup. This was a second chance for us and we couldn’t mess it up.

"Attitude wins football matches, and it wasn’t correct after we went 2-0 in the first game.

“We have young players and they have to find ways to win matches. This was a tricky tie but we came through it and I’m delighted to be in the next round.

“I thought we were really professional and I felt once we got 2-0 up we bossed the game. We saw the game out quite comfortably and it’s just a shame we couldn’t have gone out and got that third goal.”
