Rovers' Scintillating Strike Force Makes Mellon Proud

Micky Mellon heaped praise on his fearsome front two as Tranmere Rovers turned on the second half style to thrash Dagenham on Saturday.

A 4-0 victory in East London helped Rovers keep up the heat at the top of the Vanarama National League.

Strikers James Norwood and Andy Cook both bagged a brace after the break right in front of the away fans and Mellon knew how crucial the win was.

“It’s a massive result at an important time for us,” said Mellon. “The players and the fans were fantastic.

“James Norwood and Andy Cook worked hard to try and be a pair and they set the standard throughout the team.

“They were excellent, very good. They were brilliant and linked very well. I would be nit-picking if I asked for any more of them!”

Tranmere face another trip down south next to Boreham Wood on Saturday and the manager added: “We always had the fact we hadn’t played for two weeks in the back of our mind. But the positive was that it allowed us to get some players back.

“I don’t know if we’ve sent out a message or not. We demand that we win games of football and play well.

“We won’t get carried away and we never do. All we can do is carry on, score goals and keep clean sheets. But it was an important win for us and we played very well.”
