Round-up: Tuesday's Pre-Season Friendlies

A round-up of Tuesday`s pre-season games involving teams from the Vanarama National League.

Barrow AFC achieved a very good win at the Furness Building Society against Scottish Premiership side Motherwell on a damp Tuesday night.

Richie Bennett fired home the only goal following a corner in the 10th minute to give the Bluebirds an encouraging win against a Steelmen side whose league season gets underway this weekend.

Barrow`s league rivals Dover Athletic were 3-0 winners at Southern Counties East League neighbours Deal Town.

George Essuman’s stunning overhead kick, a neat finish from another debutant, Ryan Bird, and a goal from an un-named triallist sealed victory for the visitors.

National League side Boreham Wood secured their first win of pre-season as goals from Ricky Shakes and Frank Keita secured a 2-0 victory over Bostik League North outfit Haringey Borough.

It was the Wood’s first match of pre-season following their return from a training camp in Devon and they showed no sign of any off-season fatigue.

Shakes nodded the away side in-front shortly into the second half before Keita doubled their lead with another header just 9 minutes from time.

Wood`s league rivals Wrexham extended their pre-season winning run with a 2-1 victory at the Estadio Municipal Loule over Louletano, who play in the third tier of Portuguese football.

New signing Ntumba Massanka and Leo Smith with the Dragons` goals.

Eastleigh eased to a 4-0 win at the Camrose against Evo-Stik League South Premier side Basingstoke Town.

Ross Stearn with two, Craig McAllister and James Constable were on target for the Spitfires.

Another National League side in action on Tuesday were Aldershot Town, who were 2-1 winners at Evo-Stik League South West outfit AFC Totton.

First half goals from Shaun Okojie and Idris Kanu sealed a first victory of pre-season for The Shots, with Nathaniel Sherbourne replying.

Gary Waddock’s squad again featured several triallists, with Jack Cook, Frazer Shaw and Foday Nabay joined by central-defender Brian Tshibangu.

A goal in each half from Jordan Chapell and Lucas Dawson bagged Chester FC a 2-0 win at Flint Town United.

Having claimed a 5-1 success at Runcorn Town just 24 hours earlier, Chester were back at it at Cae-Y-Castell for a clash against a Silkmen side now under the stewardship of former Chester favourite Andy Holden.

Guiseley AFC shared a 3-3 draw at Nethermoor with Championship side Barnsley.

Goals from new signings Lloyd Isgrove, Zeki Fryers and George Moncur came as Barnsley were twice forced to battle back from behind after two goals from un-named triallists and Reece Thompson had the Lions ahead.

National League new boys Ebbsfleet United were beaten by the odd goal in five at Longmead by Bostik League Premier side Tonbridge Angels.

Tonbridge went two-up through Andre McCollin and un-named triallist.

Darren McQueen and Danny Kedwell pulled Fleet level, but Dan Thompson headed home from close range 5 minutes from time to win it for Angels.

Tonbridge`s league rivals Leatherhead shared a 2-2 draw with neighbours Woking.

The match took place at the River Lane ground, home to Leatherhead Youth Football Club, which is in the throes of a potential merger with Leatherhead Football Club, and a move of the latter to this ground from Fetcham Grove.

Callum Davies gave the Tanners a 19th minute lead that Joe Ward cancelled out 6 minutes later.

A Josh Staunton own goal had the hosts back in front on the half-hour mark, but Bobson Bawling netted his second successive Cards goal to level matters in the 56th minute.

Solihull Moors won 4-2 at Midland Leaguers Highgate United.

Tyrese Shade with two, George Carline and two un-named triallists with Moors` goals.

Newcomers to the National League, AFC Fylde, sealed a 5-0 win at Evo-Stik Premier Marine AFC.

Danny Rowe with two, Sam Finley, Henry Jones and a triallist scored the Coasters` goals.

National League North club Boston United progressed to the semi-finals of the Lincolnshire Senior Cup, courtesy of a 1-0 win over Evo-Stik League South side Lincoln United at Ashby Avenue.

Mason Warren's fine strike on 59 minutes, following excellent build-up play from Harry Vince, ensured a safe passage for Adam Murray's men.

Boston`s league rivals Salford City chalked up eight unanswered goals as they got their pre-season up to an impressive start at Hallmark Security League side Atherton LR's Crilly Park home.

An own goal set the ball rolling for the Ammies in the 5th minute and then Manny Dieseruvwe and Mike Phoenix added further goals before the break.

The second half saw two un-named triallists along with Jake Beesley and a Richie Allen brace make the final score 8-0.

Salford`s new league rivals, Leamington, were 3-1 winners against a now-Midland League Worcester City side.

After Matt Birley had given City a first half lead, Rob Thompson-Brown from the spot, Charlie Marsh and Tom Rankin turned it round for the Brakes in the second period.

Another National League North side, Brackley Town, enjoyed a very good 2-1 win over League One Shrewsbury Town at St James`s Park.

Le Ndvolu and James Armson scored the Saints` goals.

Alfreton Town suffered a 5-0 defeat at the Impact Arena to a strong side from one of the favourites for promotion from the Championship, Sheffield Wednesday.

A Jordan Rhodes brace inside 2 minutes midway through the first half were added to by goals after the break from Atdhe Nuhiu, Adam Reach and Connor O’Grady for the Owls.

Stockport County made the short trip to Moss Lane to take on former National League North rivals and now Evo-Stik Premier Altrincham and won 2-1.

Darren Stephenson and Matt Oswell were the County marksmen and Josh Hancock with Alty`s reply.

Stockport`s neighbours and rivals FC United of Manchester won 3-0 at Hallmark Security Leaguers Congleton Town`s Booth Street.

First half goals from Craig Lindfield, Robby McDaid and Jason Gilchrist sealed the Reds` win.

Tamworth won 3-1 at Evo-Stik South West hosts Evesham United.

Reece Styche, Darryl Knight and Andrew Burns scored for the Lambs, with an un-named triallist replying for United.

Kidderminster Harriers were beaten 4-0 at Aggborough by a strong squad from Championship side Derby County.

David Nugent, Craig Bryson, Cheis Martin and Darren Bent were the Rams` on target.

Nuneaton Town were involved in a goal fest at home against League One Peterborough United.

Posh, fielding several players well-known to non-League followers, scored through Junior Morais, Ricky Miller, Tom Nichols, Morgan Penfold and Michael Doughty made it a nap hand for the visitors.

A Billy Daniels brace and Alex Henshaw were Town`s men on the mark as it finished 5-3.

National League South Eastbourne Borough saw Nat Pinney give them a 1-0 with a first half penalty at Southern Counties East Leaguers Tunbridge Wells.

Boro`s league rivals Oxford City secured a maiden win on their new 3G pitch.

The new Marsh Lane surface was put through its paces as Reece Fleet's first half brace propelled City to victory over League Two Cheltenham Town in a torrential downpour.

Mohamed Eisa grabbed an 85th minute consolation goal for the visitors but Craig Hill's defence held firm to seal the Hoops' first pre-season win.

Oxford`s league rivals Bath City lost 3-0 at Twerton Park to a strong side from Championship outfit Bristol City.

Jamie Paterson from the spot, Bobby Reid and Joe Bryan scored the visitors` goals.

Another south side, Dartford, lost 2-1 at Princes Park to League One neighbours Gillingham.

Goals from Gabriel Zakuani and Josh Parker put the Gills 2-0 up at the break.

Former Gills youngster Tom Murphy halved the deficit midway through the second half.

Poole Town found themselves 2-0 up against League One new boys Portsmouth before ending up losing 6-3.

Olli Balmer and Ollie Davies had the Dolphins ahead before Ben Close, Curtis Main and Nicke Kabamba each grabbed two goals at a damp Black Gold Stadium during a lively affair.

Weston-super-Mare lost 3-0 at the Woodspring against Pompey`s league rivals Bristol Rovers.

Rory Gaffney, Ellis Harrison and Ryan Bloom scored for the Gas.

Chelmsford City won 3-1 at Bostik Premier neighbours Brightlingsea Regent.

All the goals came in the second half, with Mickey Spillane heading the Clarets ahead 4 minutes after the restart.

Regent equalised in the 71st minute through Aaron Condon from the spot.

However, the sides were not level for long and Chelmsford reclaimed their lead through Hugo Skepelhorn.

Kane Haysman then added a late third for City.

St Albans City lost to a Luke Berry header for League Two Cambridge City at Clarence Park.

Welling United`s new-look side were held to a 1-1 draw at Bostik North Phoenix Sports.

Trailing at half-time to a Frankie Sawyer goal for Sports, Pierre Joseph-Dubois equalised for the Wings midway through the second half.
