Relief! Saunders' Stones Taste Victory Again At Long Last

Can we play you every week?! That’s what must be going through every Maidstone United supporters’ head after a huge win over Torquay United.

The Stones had been on a miserable run since they won 1-0 at Torquay back on November 11.

Jay Saunders’ side went 17 National League games without tasting victory but ended that unwanted streak at the Gallagher Stadium on Saturday.

Josh Hare’s goal two minutes from time sealed the win against the side they last picked up three points against!

A relieved Saunders told the club’s website: “Was it the prettiest of games? No. Were we at our best? No. But I would have taken a scrappy 1-0 win this morning!

“We’ve played a lot better and got nothing like last week against Tranmere. There was a lot of pressure on us today and we looked rusty after the two weeks off but I’m really pleased we got the win.

“We got a little bit of luck at the end that has been deserting us in recent weeks. We deserved it and I’ve got to give the players full credit.

“It would have been easy to throw in the towel with the run we’ve been on but their attitudes have always been first class. It’s been a testing time so I’m delighted to get three points.”
