Reds Make Ex-Leeds Winger Their 17th Signing

Alfreton Town have announced the signing of versatile winger Billy Whitehouse.

Whitehouse signs for the upcoming 2017/18 season and becomes the seventeenth addition to the Reds squad this season.

Whitehouse came through the Doncaster Rovers youth system and signed his first professional contract in May 2014.

He made his first-team debut against Burton Albion in the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy in October 2014 and made seven appearances during the 2014/15 season.

February 2016 saw Whitehouse make a switch to FC Halifax Town on a month’s loan and he scored on debut just seven days later against Grimsby Town.

He made two further appearances during the loan spell before returning to Doncaster and playing just four games in the 2015/16 campaign.

In August 2016, Whitehouse joined Leeds United on a one-year deal and joined the development squad; he then joined Guiseley AFC on a three-month loan but made just one appearance for the Lions.

A return to Leeds came in January 2017 when he made his debut in the 1-0 defeat to Sutton United in the Emirates FA Cup, Whitehouse was then released in May 2017.

Alfreton manager John McDermott was thrilled to have secured Billy for the upcoming season: “Billy can play on both sides and can track back very well and fill the hole too. He is a great winger but can also drop back into right back.
“He comes from Leeds and has good experience at a young age, he’s very tricky and we saw on Tuesday night he is excellent on the ball, very quick and can score goals. He is good with both his feet.”

“He is very versatile, can go right wing, left wing; it’s great cover again for us and it makes excellent competition for places, we have great depth in a strong squad now. He is a hungry lad and I liked his attitude”.
