Quakers Refuse To Throw In The Play-off Towel Just Yet

Darlington manager Tommy Wright has told his players not to give up on the National League North play-offs without a fight.

The Darlo boss saw Sunday’s game with Salford City called off for a second time.

That was their chance to close the gap on the top seven - and with the match not going ahead the gap between them and the promotion places stands at nine points.

The Quakers may be sitting in 16th place but their manager says there’s still every hope of them doing something special.

Wright, whose team travel to Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday, said: “Of course it was a shame Sunday’s game couldn’t go ahead - we knew a win would have given us a great lift.

“I believe in good runs and although we don’t want to be in the lower half of the table we do think we can still make a push.

“It’s a really strong league, everyone knows that. It’s not been an easy season but we’ve got ability in our squad, ability that could see us string a number of good results together.

“There’s always a side that comes on strong - I’ve been involved with teams who have come from nowhere so you won’t find us saying that’s that.”

After Gainsborough comes a double header with title-chasing Harrogate - before a reunion with former manager Martin Gray and his York City side.

“This time of year is always fast paced,” Wright said. “I don’t see nine points as a huge gap and hopefully over Christmas and New Year we can close up on the sides above us.”
