Port Swoop For Experienced Roberts

Southport have agreed the transfer of 30-year-old Gary Roberts from Dafabet Welsh Premier side Bangor City.

Roberts joins Port for an undisclosed fee.

Roberts was an addition to The Citizens squad almost exactly a year ago.

The 30-year old Chester-born player began his career with Crewe Alexandra in 2003, making 122 League appearances and scoring 11 goals over the next five years.

Roberts left the Railwaymen to join Yeovil Town in 2008, making thirty-four League One appearances, before a further transfer to Rotherham United in 2009.

A move to Port Vale in 2010 was followed by a spell with Mansfield Town.

In January 2013 Roberts joined Maltese Premier League club Floriana, initially on loan, before making twenty-two Welsh Premier appearances in the colours of Gap Connah’s Quay during the 2014/15 season.

A further move to Malta with Mosta FC in 2015 was followed by a return to the UK with Witton Albion, then of the Evo-Stik League North.

Roberts has also represented England from under-16 through to under-19 levels.
