Orient 'Will Bounce Back' After First Day Sutton Stumble

The Leyton Orient manager Steve Davis backed his team to bounce back from their opening Vanarama National League set back at Sutton United.

It wasn’t the start they wanted after traveling across London. Two first half goals, from defenders Jamie Collins and Dean Beckwith, meant it was an unwanted first defender since relegation from EFL Sky Bet League Two.

Davis believes his team are a little behind the rest in terms of preparation and that perhaps was why they didn’t get off to the start the wanted as they slipped to a 2-0 loss.

The new manager, who only took over in July at Brisbane Road, is confident his players will set the record straight at home to Solihull Moors on Tuesday night.

“We found it very difficult to break down a resolute defence, with a midfielder sitting in and breaking up play,” he said after the match.

“We’re looking to learn from that a find a better way of breaking these defences down.

“It might be that we need someone up there with some muscle to help us do that in these type of games.

“The 3G surface is okay, it’s more a mental thing for players so there’s no excuses from that point of view. We had to be better than we were. It’s as good as any surface you play on, so I won’t be hiding behind that.

“Their spirit is really good in the dressing room. Their heads are down, but they’ll be looking to put it right. I have no doubt there’s enough about them to do that, hopefully starting on Tuesday.”

He added: “We didn’t make the most of the free-kicks or corners that we won. We didn’t have enough craft in key areas and we also made bad mistakes that cost us dear.”
