Now Reds Take Striker On Loan From League Rivals

Following the arrival of Ben Clappison from league rivals York City earlier today, Alfreton Town have also announced the signing of striker Marcus Day from another league rival, Harrogate Town.

Day arrives at the Impact Arena on a month’s loan.

Following loan spells at sides Wetherby Athletic and Harrogate Railway, Day made his breakthrough into the Harrogate first-team during the 2016/17 season.

A first start of the season arrived at AFC Fylde, where Day impressed enough to remain in the plans for Harrogate's next game against Kidderminster Harriers, and the manager’s trust was rewarded with a man of the match performance.

Alongside a loan spell at Ossett Town, Day went on to make nineteen appearances during the season.

Reds boss John McDermott told the club`s website: “Both players are excellent additions for us during a tough portion of the season. We have a few injuries within the squad so it’s good depth for us to have.

“I know both very well, Ben is a strong centre back and was familiar with him when he was at Hull. I kept my eye on him and from his time at York he has good grounding already. It’s important for us to bring in players with experience.

“It’s good cover for us to have, Ben is aggressive, a good passer and reader of the game. He has been full time, so fitness will be good for him. It gives him a chance to show what he can do as well, gives us depth and freshness.

“Marcus is a great addition for us also; he gets goals and is a good finisher. His work rate is especially important for us; he’s a non-stop runner, always gives 100% effort and will stretch teams. He works the back four and never gives up.

“It’s been an element for us we have needed, we have goals in the team but not enough at times, we need a player like Marcus who will stretch things for us and obviously get goals. He will give us pace and hunger up front. Thanks to Harrogate for being excellent throughout the process, we are excited to get going with both lads who aim to make us stronger”.
