Non-League Day Preview:Vanarama National League South

By Sam Elliott

Jerry Gill’s first assignment at Bath City is one of the most difficult imaginable. The new manager takes his team to a St Albans City side who have eyes for top spot again.

Gill’s first game is at Clarence Park against the third place Saints and he knows the size of the task ahead. Bath too have their sights set on moving on up, a win could be enough to take them into the play-off places.

Leading the way outright of course is Truro City and their manager Lee Hodges wants to make sure they stay there.

The Whites Tigers could make it eight National League South wins in a row and they host a Hampton & Richmond side who need to start showing their FA Cup form in the league.

In second place Braintree Town, but you wouldn’t know it at training this week.

Brad Quinton’s side know they have to put last weekend’s 4-1 thrashing at Brackley Town in the Cup to the back of their minds and know they can do that with a win at Gloucester City.

“It’s a game that we need to show our character after last week,” said Quinton.

The other clubs right up there also need to put wobbles being them. East Thurrock go to Hungerford Town while Dartford - who were thrashed in their last league game at Weston - are at home to Bognor Regis Town.

There is a really big game at the bottom of the league and whoever comes out on top of Oxford City’s meeting with Poole Town will certainly feel the benefit.

Steve King says he is back at Whitehawk to keep the club in the division.

But he knows the Hawks really have to start winning matches or that task will become greater with every week that passes by.

Wealdstone’s league form has been boosted since Bobby Wilkinson settled in and they want a fourth home win in a row against the Sussex strugglers tomorrow.

The winners of Welling United and Chippenham can take a stride towards the step seven. The game at Park View Road is “really really big” according to the Wings manager Jamie Coyle.

Rod Stringer will be of the same opinion. His Chelmsford City side now haven’t won in five league matches and he needs their scoring form in the FA Cup to return.

They face Eastbourne Borough at Melbourne at Stringer’s team needs to get back on track.

Elsewhere Havant & Waterlooville take their excellent away form to Essex as they look to get the better of Concord Rangers.

Where next?
