New Striker For Woking

By Elliott York

Woking have announced the signing of Jason Banton.

Banton, 24, came through the academy at Arsenal, leaving to join Blackburn Rovers in 2008 where he finished as top scorer in their youth team in his first year.

He spent time at Liverpool, Leicester City and Crystal Palace, playing one game for Palace in the FA Cup at home to Stoke City before going out on loan to Plymouth Argyle.

He scored 6 goals in fourteen matches for Argyle in League Two, including a double in their 2-1 victory at Aldershot Town.

He won the League Two player of the month award for March 2013 before being recalled by Palace.

The following season he made seventeen appearances on loan at MK Dons before re-joining Plymouth permanently in January 2014, helping the club reach the League Two play-offs in 2014/15, scoring in the semi-final against Wycombe Wanderers.

Banton joined Wycombe the following season, where he had loan spells at Hartlepool United and Notts County.

Last summer he joined Crawley Town, making nineteen appearances in the first half of the season before joining Scottish side Patrick Thistle on loan in January, where he unfortunately picked up an injury in his first week.

Woking manager Anthony Limbrick said: “Jason is an exciting and very talented player who can be a match winner for Woking by scoring and creating goals. A season of consistency in the National League will really help him improve his game and add real quality to the squad.”

Banton on where he sees himself playing for Woking: “I can play in any of the attacking positions, preferably on the left or behind the striker. I’m very good one-on-one, I can beat a player, and I’m quick”.
