Morrell: Saints Point Can Rouse The Sleeping Lambs

Tamworth manager Andy Morrell knows draws at home may not seem like season-changing moments, but he thinks this weekend’s point against Brackley Town represents big progress.

The Lambs has lost three of their previous for National League North matches before the visit of the Saints.

But Morrell says their performance was significant and he hopes a corner has been turned after a worthy point against the title chasers.

Speaking after the 1-1 to the club’s Lambs Media, the former Blackpool and Wrexham striker said: “We have had a rocky patch over the past month or so, but I think this will galvanise the side and change the mood a little bit.

“I have to say they are a very good side, you could see what they haven’t lost many matches this season.

“I think Brackley will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season, but I have got to say with the exception of the first 20 minutes when we struggled with shape, we performed very well.

“I’m actually a bit disappointed that we didn’t win it in the end.

“We rode our luck in the early stages of the match. They have a number of opportunities but we stayed in the game.”

Morrell has been busy in the transfer market and he was pleased with his January shopping.

“We had three new lads in our team and they settled in well,” he said. “They were all great, in fact the whole squad were.

“They put their bodies on the line when they needed to and the new additions came in and gave the group a big lift.

“If we keep on working that hard, I think our football will eventually come out.”
