Limbrick Pleased By Encouraging Cardinals Display

By Steve Whitney

Woking boss Anthony Limbrick was pleased after watching his side draw with Sky Bet League Two side Cambridge United on Tuesday night.

All in all, it was an encouraging display by the Cards after playing out a goalless draw at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.

And Limbrick was particularly pleased with the defensive aspect of his side’s game after keeping a clean sheet against a side who finished in the top half of League Two last term.

“I think we played okay,” said Limbrick after the game. “We probably just edged the first half which was pleasing as it was certainly a more competitive game. Cambridge put out a decent side, and they stepped up in the second half. However, we responded well and it was great to keep a clean sheet. Obviously, I’d like to score at home but it was a good performance overall.”

With just one more game to go before the new season starts on August 5th, Limbrick is looking forward to completing what has been a busy pre-season.

“The game on Saturday will be our sixth of pre-season,” Limbrick added.

“It has been good to have a variety in the level of opposition, but to have two tougher games to finish is good preparation going into the new season. We have seen the players give their all to the team over the five games so far, and the levels of energy and work rate have been exceptional.”

Limbrick has made several summer signings ahead of his first season in senior management, and has not ruled out making a couple more between now and August 5th.

The Cards boss said: “We hope to bring in a couple more faces in the lead up to the Gateshead match, but hopefully they will be done in time for Swindon on Saturday. I am happy with how the squad is shaping up, and can’t wait to get the season underway”.
